Retirement of Mrs Gabrielle O Hanlon
On Thursday 26th of June we gathered to mark the retirement of our dear Vice Principal Mrs O Hanlon. When she arrived in Carrowholly N.S. in 1997 it was a small two teacher school. In the years that followed she was an important factor in the growth and success of the school. For 28 years she has been a wonderful teacher, nurturer and steady presence for both children and parents alike. For so many families she was the first school teacher their child ever knew and what a gift that was. Many reluctant and apprehensive Junior infants entered her classroom on their first day ,but soon discovered they were in very safe hands with Mrs O Hanlon. Her room was always a happy and playful place to be. The nativity plays, the famous shop, the prize box, school tours, trips to Ryder's Farm, nature walks and birthday swings on the swivel chair are just some of the happy memories past pupils recall.
Always approachable, her warmth, wit, kindness and endless patience have left a lasting impact on all those whom she taught and worked alongside. Though she is moving on to a new chapter her legacy will remain in the hearts and minds of the many children she taught and cared for over the years. Her presence will be greatly missed but we wish her a long , happy and healthy retirement.
