On the 26th of June we gathered to mark the retirement of our dear Vice Principal Mrs Gabrielle O Hanlon. When she arrived in Carrowholly N.S in 1997 it was a small two teacher school . Over the years Mrs O Hanlon was an important contributor to it's growth and success. For 28 years she has been a wonderful teacher, mentor and steady presence for both children and parents alike. For so many families she was the first school teacher their child ever knew and what a gift that was. Many reluctant and apprehensive Junior infants walked into her classroom and soon discovered they were in very safe hands with Mrs O' Hanlon.Her classroom was a happy and playful learning space The nativity plays, the famous shop, school tours, farm trips, the Prize box , nature walks, and birthday swings on the swivel chair are just some of the happy memories past pupils recall. Always approachable, her warmth, wit , kindness and endless patience have left a lasting impact on all those whom she taught and worked alongside. Though she is starting a new chapter her legacy will remain in the hearts and minds of all the children she taught and guided over the years. While her presence will be greatly missed we wish her a long , happy and healthy retirement . "Míle buíochas" from all in Carrowholly N.S.
